Birded Monticello park this afternoon from about 3:45 until 6:15 with my
friend Harry. The place was dripping with warblers. Best bird was a
first-fall Bay-breasted warbler. Equally wonderful was a full-adult male
Hooded warbler. This may have been the brightest Hooded warbler I or Harry
had ever seen. The yellow on the cheeks was radiant, like day-glo, with
very dark back hood and throat. We watched it from 15 -20 feet for about 20
minutes. WOW!!
Also seen were many other warblers: Magnolia 10 -15 plus; Black and White
10 plus; Black-throated blues 8 -10 plus, Ovenbirds 10 plus, Yellowstarts, a
Blue-headed Vireo, a Red-eyed Vireo, a couple of Parulas. Other stuff was
seen earlier in the day. Looks good again for tomorrow. Get out to your
favorite spot.
