Just a quick note to tell you that on Monday, November 30, when I did my
latest and last Fisherman Island survey, accompanied by Calvin Brennan, the
CVWO hawkwatcher extraordinaire, we spent a bit of time looking East over the
ocean at the breakers between Fisherman and Smith Islands. While there, we saw
many Northern Gannets, Red-throated Loons, and Surf Scoters moving. There were
also smaller numbers of Common Loons and Black Scoters. A string of large
ducks caught Calvin's eye and I got on them with the scope. It was a flock of
8 female and 2 male Common Eiders heading south where they will be near the
rocks of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel for the VSO this weekend. A
couple of White-winged Scoters in the surf completed the scoters and
Red-breasted Mergansers and a few Lesser Scaup flew by as well. Should be a
good weekend. Hope to see many of you there.

I'm doing an ABA Big Year in 2010 - it seemed like a good idea at the time.
