Hello again everyone!
Sorry for the quick type and run on my initial report.
As I was saying, the Red-Necked Grebe seemed to remain submerged for a long
time and would not surface nearby. I did not time it's dives, as I could not
locate it when it surfaced even though I scanned the area. When I would see it
the next time it would be several hundred feet away from it's dive location.
Interesting bird indeed!
There were several other birds around the lake, including Buffleheads,
Ring-Necked Ducks, Mallards and a Female Ruddy Duck. One Male Mallard was
escorting what appeared to be a Black Duck. I counted 12 Ring-Billed Gulls on
the lake but they did not stay around for long.
On the home front:
I saw leaves flying all over the place in the back yard and spotted a Fox
Sparrow as the culprit. Try as I might, I could not get a clear shot. I kept
getting leaves in the picture.
I have also had two Yellow-Rumped Warblers at the suet feeders for most of the
Winter. They didn't do well in Kindergarten as they would constantly squabble
with each other. At least they did this until a Pine Warbler showed up to eat.
Then they both would chase the Pine Warbler away. No decent photos of the
Pine Warbler yet.
Hope everyone had a fantastic and safe weekend!
Best birding!
