I joined a Nature Conservancy bird walk at the Conservancy's Fraser
Preserve along the Potomac River in Great Falls this morning. Migrants
included:
Warblers: Pine, La. Waterthrush, Yellow-throated, several Palms in a flock
of 30 or more Yellow-rumped, many Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers, Ruby-Crowned
Kinglets, Phoebe, Eastern Towhee, Wood Ducks, and Brown-headed Cowbirds.
There were 10 lingering Buffleheads on the Potomac. A Wild Turkey was also seen
by some of the participants.
The forest floor was alive with massive displays of spring beauties and
toothworts. Spring azures were about, and I saw my FOY tiger swallowtail.
All in all, it was an enjoyable experience--excellent leaders and 15
interested participants.
