I walked outside at dawn and birded for over 2 hrs. before I had to leave for a
volunteer event. The birding action was so good that I didn't leave the area
of
my cul de sac. I heard a few thrushes but only got a brief look at one before
I
lost it.
Warblers were well represented w/ 9 species. Best species for me was a couple
of RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES. They are definitely on the move this season, as
they have been widely reported to our north in recent weeks. I had many in the
Pine Barrens of South Jersey last weekend.

Subject: heavy flight, Fairfax Co.; early Sept. 11
Lying in bed, awake after 5am. I could hear numerous birds outside my open
window, their nocturnal flight calls overhead. It's after 6am and they are
still calling, by the hundreds. Every single one sounds like a thrush but
my knowledge of these calls is very limited.
A look at the radar now vs. last night shows that the flight has gotten heavier
over the DC area.
For those who are up and reading this, get outside now if you can!
