Greetings VA Birders,
Nineteen participants joined leader Geoff Giles at New Quarter Park near
Williamsburg for our regular second Saturday Bird Walk. We tallied 34 species;
the eBird list is below.
One of the highlights was the adult Bald Eagle perched (basking in the sun?) in
the top of a tree near Queens Creek. We spotted it as we made our way down the
hill to the floating dock. We got him (her?) in the scope before we finished
our trek to the dock. Surprisingly, the eagle remained in the tree until we
reached the dock and we again enjoyed good looks at the bird in the scope.
Surprise bird was an adult Laughing Gull flying along the creek with 2
Bonaparte's Gulls and a lone Forster's Tern.
With his scope turned up to highest zoom, Geoff was able to see Brown Pelicans
diving for fish out on the York River (north of Yorktown).
A few winter ducks are still around. The Ospreys are well into nest building on
Queens Creek and along the York River.

Our next walk at New Quarter Park is Saturday, March 26, 7 am. Bird walks are
open to all and we welcome visitors.
