20 birders came out this morning to Clark's Crossing in Vienna along the W &
OD Trail. It was a Northern Virginia Bird Club bird walk combined with a nest
box monitoring activity. We saw both baby Eastern Bluebirds and baby Tree
Swallow in various boxes. One box held 4 perfect little blue Bluebird eggs
nestled in a nest made of pine needles. We also saw Indigo Buntings, Orchard
Orioles, Common Yellowthroats, Eastern Phoebes, and Eastern Kingbirds. It was
also interesting to see Cedar Waxwings in pairs as they get into the swing of
their breeding season. Non-avian highlights included a Box Turtle, a Painted
Skimmer dragonfly and some Silver-spotted Skipper butterflies.
