The weekly 8 AM Dyke Marsh bird walk sponsored by Friends of Dyke Marsh and
open to all was fairly birdy this morning. Our group of eight found 47 species
and managed to get good views of most of them. We started by looking at the
waterfowl and gulls on the river. At the marina we saw a young Cooper's Hawk
perched in a tree and surveying the area. Once on Haul Road, we found several
mixed flocks of birds made up of Chickadees, Titmice, Yellow-rumoped Warblers
and Ruby-crowned Kinglets. A few Golden-crowned Kinglets a Gray Catbird, and a
Pine Warbler were also found. After the turn, we found a couple of Belted
Kingfishers and a good number of Yellowlegs of both species. After the walk, I
went down to check the river again and I found some American Wigeon and some
Ruddy Ducks, I also saw an unusual goose. It had a Canada Goose body and a
fairly dark contrasting neck, Its head, however, resembled that of a Greater
White-fronted Goose with a pink blll and white front. Cleaqrly a hybrid.
