Well, the morning started off chilly for the Sunday walk at Dyke Marsh and
managed to stay that way as the cloud cover moved in and the breeze picked up.
Friends of Dyke Marsh (FODM.org) sponsors this walk every Sunday (even Easter),
(but not around Xmas) and I do think I might have to start lobbying for coffee
and donuts on these cooler mornings. Some sharp eyes spotted some good birds
this morning, even though the lack of sun and cooler temps kept activity a bit
muted... at the end of the walk we were at 48 species - Larry Meade and I stood
in the parking lot trying to get us to 50 but only managed to add RedTail Hawk
to finish at 49. Lack of duckie diversity, no GB Heron or Egrets, and some
other "misses" kept us from pushing 60 - but hilites follow -
Ray Smith spotted us a Hairy WP in the picnic area -
A RedNeck Grebe (complete w. Coors lite) was spotted out from the marina -
An Am Kestrel - an unusual visitor to the marsh - flew over the group
in the marina as well-
Keith Maley got the group on two BlueGray Gnatcatchers near Dead Beaver
Beach
Larry Meade picked up a Common Loon south of the first platform
and my FOS Caspian Tern passed going upriver as we were on the last
platform
