Today while conducting the beach survey at Back Bay NWR and False Cape SP,
I recorded 686 Northern Gannets and 743 scoters in the period of a little over
an hour that the survey required. All the birds were moving south over the
ocean and every scoter that I could identify was a Black Scoter.
Last Friday during the impoundment survey at Back Bay I saw my first two
American Bitterns of the fall. For general information the east dike south of
the visitor's blind will close on November 1. The west dike is already closed.
The beach will remain open.

I'm doing an ABA Big Year in 2010 - it seemed like a good idea at the time.
