Hello all
Did a little birding in & around Augusta County today . The only major thing
happening in the bird world was a good number of Goldfinch moving thru the area
. At Quillen's I found a flock of about 150+ but in the Swoope area near the
Boy Scout Camp where about 3 to 4 acres of Sunflower were grown this summer .
In this field there were some where in the range of 700+ Goldfinch . This is
the most Goldfinch I have ever seen in one day & to top it off with all of
those Goldfinch I could not find a Pine Siskin among them . This is also a
fall peak count for our area . A short walk on my property this morning yielded
several Golden - crowned Kinglets & a couple of Ruby - crowned Kinglets . Also
a Red - breasted Nuthatch & a Hermit Thrush . The Cackling Goose is still in
the Lyndhurst area with about a 100 Canada Geese .
