Following is the count from Sunday's weekly bird walk at Great Falls National
Park, which identified 32 species and included 7 participants. Despite the
soggy morning some birds were out, including a plethora of Great Blue Heron and
Double-crested Cormorants active in the Conn Island rookery (near the Bald
Eagles' nest). Kinglets also were observed in the wooded areas of the park, but
their height in the canopy and the diffuse lighting made it challenging to
confirm the species. Last, the Spring Peepers were doing their best to prepare
all birders for April Fools' Day birding-by-ear classes.
The walk meets in the main parking lot of Great Falls Park at 8:00 a.m. on
Sunday mornings, rain or shine; it does not take place, though, during
electrical storms, heavy snows, or when the trails are icy. All those with an
