Eight birders joined me for the March 31 edition of the Sunday morning bird
walk, held every Sunday, except during the Christmas Bird Count season,
starting at 8:00 AM. At least four Osprey breeding pairs have commenced
nest construction (later this year) and at least one of two eagle nest
appears to contain nestlings. The river was almost devoid of waterfowl, as
it has been almost all winter, so one hen Red-breasted Merganser and a pair
of American Wigeons was a delight to see in the otherwise empty river. As
was two Horned Grebes. A Caspian Tern flying over the marina was a first of
the year for me. Tree Swallows were all over the place today, a nice
indicator that spring has arrived.
