Five birders enjoyed a good morning of birding at Great Falls NP seeing
several fall firsts for the year including BLUE-HEADED VIREO, WINTER WREN AND
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, and also a few late warbler migrants. But the
highlight of the walk was COMMON RAVEN. We had heard one calling from the
trees surrounding the Clay Pond and I at first wondered if we were hearing
some rare long legged wader. But soon three wedge-tailed birds were soaring
over the north parking lot given us all great views. Two American Crows
flying near them provided size contrast. One birder also noted a fourth raven
flying solo. This is only the second or third sighting of ravens in the
park to my knowledge.
I am submitting the list on behalf of the walk leader Marshall Rawson who
is encountering computer difficulties. We meet every Sunday morning at 8
AM at the park visitors' center. All are welcome to join us.
The list follows. Ralph Wall
