Our group of six tallied 47 species. We had a five warbler day with nice
looks at blackthroated blues (a male and two females) and male redstart in
addition to parula, magnolia and yellow-rumps. Our early birders found a small
flock of red-breasted nuthatches at the end of the far parking lot. We had our
first sapsuckers for the fall. A large number of robins were enjoying grapes,
poison ivy and Virginia creeper berries; mixed in were a Swainson's and two
wood thrushes. There were also rose-breasted grosbeaks. Despite the rain it
was good birding. ThAll are welcome to join this regular Sunday morning walk
-- 8:00am in the visitors center courtyard. -- Marshall Rawson, McLean
