This morning (9/26) in the Nellysford / Brents Mtn area of Nelson County we had
a SWAINSONS THRUSH. Not long after that there was a PHILADELPHIA VIREO among a
huge group of wandering warblers (at least 30+ warblers of 5 species traveling
with Chickadees, Titmouse, and Red-Eyed Vireo). Lots of Redstarts, B-T Blue,
B-T Green, and Maggies.
We've had every possible species of woodpecker in the yard today, except for a
Hairy. There was an immature RED-HEADED WOODPECKER here in the morning,
followed eventually by the 5 more typical species of this area. The first
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER of the season came through at the same time as the
Red-headed.
On Saturday afternoon, up at Wintergreen's Raven's Roost Overlook there were
plenty of BROADWINGS and a dark falcon of some sort which I imagine may have
been the MERLIN seen a few miles north at Rockfish Gap Hawkwatch a few minutes
earlier that day (?).
