Our group of nine tallied 51 species. We had great looks at nesting
red-bellied woodpeckers
& great crested flycatchers feeding their young in the picnic area. The pair
of adult eagles were
soaring together while the three eaglets remained on the nest. Last year's
brood had fledged by
this time. Great blue heron broods seemed to have fledged as there herons
everywhere. We were
treated to long views of a pair of yellow-billed cuckoos and a singing indigo
bunting in the picnic area
and a Louisiana waterthrush still singing this week in the holding basin.
All are welcome to join this Sunday walk which meets at 8:00 am in the visitors
center courtyard. --
