Following is the count from Sunday's weekly bird walk sponsored by Great Falls
National Park. Our ten participants identified 37 species + 1 hawk species.
Our highlights were a FOS White-throated sparrow, ruby-crowned kinglets, six
different woodpecker species and a large group Cedar wax wings removing all the
grapes they could find. This was good count for this time of year and we were
lucky to find to two large mixed flocks that kept us all busy - often each of
us on a different bird at the same time.
This walk meets at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings, rain or shine, in the alcove
before the snack bar/concession stand of the Great Falls National Park
Visitors' Center; it does not take place, though, during electrical storms,
heavy snows, or when the trails are icy. All those with an interest in the
natural world, beginning and experience birders, or those interested in a nice
walk in a beautiful and historical setting please join us.
