Total observation time: 8.5 hours
Official Counter: Tad Finnell
Observers: Baron Gibson, Bill Adams, Bill James, Clark Hill,
Dillard Childress, Mike Purdy, Stephanie Hill
Visitors:
Andy Smith, from Maryland, back again but unfortunately able to see
nothing but our residents. Gilberts stopped by. Afternoon watchers composed
of hardcores Clark & Steph Hill, Bill James, Baron Gibson, Mike Purdy,
Dillard, and Bill Adams, newly returned from skunk-aping. Few Parkway-goers
got out of their cars today.
Weather:
Winds very strong out of the NW, remaining strong all day, with temps in
the 5-12C degree range making it nippy but bearable most of the day while
the sun was out. Not a cloud in the sky all day.
Raptor Observations:
Very unusual day. Even with birds in the pipeline and fantastic weather
conditions, the first bird was not sighted until noon, and then, as we were
winding down before 5:00, the birds kept coming and kept us there another
hour.
Non-raptor Observations:
Very few passerines noted except for the large flock of Juncos evident
all day at the overlook.
Predictions:
More good winds hopefully. Creeping toward our all time record!
