Visitors:
Not too busy on the parkway today. Beardog hunting over.
Weather:
Primarily southwest winds today with warm temperatures and some leftover
August haze. Few clouds occasionally revealing high Ospreys and
Broadwings. The wind often appeared to come from the East as it wrapped
around the knob with an increase in the south component.
Raptor Observations:
Birds on both sides of the knob, but some way up.
ABE at 11:09.
IBE at 12:41.
Non-raptor Observations:
Great help from another Lynchburg source today: Roy Evans who can see
those high birds, those low birds and BE's trying to slip by. He accounted
for over half the hawks today and is probably responsible for the zero
hawks recorded after he left. He also has a catalog of fine photographs
and would make an excellent Harvey's Knob videographer. He is not related
to Dale Rogers.
Some attractive lady also provided substantial help (but she forgot her
flyswatter).
Predictions:
More wind, but still a southwest headwind. You can take it for granted
that Wilbur will be up for the task.
