Visitors:
Hollins University & VA Western groups at watch today. Nice to have those
young eyes helping out. Both had interested groups. Nice to see fresh young
faces at the watch.
Weather:
Clear skies early then partly cloudy skies later in watch. VERY warm temps.
Raptor Observations:
Hawks were seen early in watch on east side of mountain with 65 hawks
counted in the first 3 hours. the next 3 hours brought only 13 hawks. Then
the skies picked up a little the last 3 hrs of watch with 130 hawks. During
the last 2 hours of watch, the Broadies were streaming in low, middle &
high and around 17:30 hours we were amazed to watch a couple of dozen
Broadies set down for the night on or very near the Knob.
3 AEBE observed @ 12:54, 14:35 & 14:36
! Merlin @ 17:15
Last hawk of the day was an OS that was still really high & out
Non-raptor Observations:
115 Monarchs
1 Nashville Warbler
1 Philidelphia Vireo
Hundreds if not thousands of dragon flies moving through.
Predictions:
Sunny with clouds later in watch. SW winds predicted (hope the weather man
is WAY wrong about this) and hopefully we get to see a lift off from the
ones that sat down. Blue Sky Joyce's day tomorrow.
