Katie James, Liz Williams, Mike Purdy, Norris Ford,
Roger Reynolds, Tina Gibson
Visitors:
Many. Group of 20 6-10 year old home schooled students, Hollins College
group, VA Western group, lots of parkway goers and many of the regulars
that come up during the BW season.
Thanks to everyone that came up and helped spot hawks today.
Weather:
Mostly cloudy to partly cloudy. Warm temps.
Winds out of the W NW all day except for the last 2 hours and they
switched to East (Hmmmm, that's when we got a boat load of hawks)
Raptor Observations:
Broadwings stared flying in the 10A hour with 348,
11A had 391, 12P had 604, 1P 69, 2P 47, 3P 3, 4P 1,795,
5P 343. The 4P hour hawks were seen on both sides of the mounatain at the
same time. 1,314 on the West side and 379 on the East side. The 5P hour
hawks (343)were seen on the East side and very low in the valley and
flapping a lot as they went out of sight. Once they were gone I looked down
at the clicker and saw that 343 was the number, I immediately thought of
the Firefighters that so bravely lost their lives on 9-11. Being a
Firefighter myself, it brought back a lot of memories of that sad day.
Brothers, you will never be forgotten.
Other notibles: 19 Osprey and 7 Bald Eagles
Non-raptor Observations:
Predictions:
More BW's as there are still numbers above us and we are supposed to have
Easterly winds
