Visitors:
"The Mayor" did a drive-through; Matt Hafner from Maryland and Blacksburg,
Bob Abrams and Joan Boudreau from Snickers Gap; Mick and Carrie from Ohio.
Weather:
A beautiful early winter day. The visibility was great, the sun felt good,
the layers of clothing were appreciated. What a difference a few days will
do. And the Thanksgiving holiday spirit could have helped.
Raptor Observations:
Many more raptors than I was expecting. And an unusual sight for me -
Turkey Vultures actually lying on the ground on the East side of the
guardrail just North of the the lookout - I have seen them perched on the
guardrail, perched on the ground near the guardrail, but never supine on
the mowed area. And they remained there while vehicles passed by on the
roadway. Something to check on in the future.
Non-raptor Observations:
Not many passing passerines. Unusual sightings - Common Loon (14), Red
Crossbill ( 1 male),Cave Swallow, Canada Geese and Fox Sparrow. Regulars:
WB Nuthatch, Titmouse, Chickadee, Junco, Pileated WP, Downy WP, Goldfinch,
Cedar Waxwing, Blue Jay, TV, BV, Raven.
Predictions:
Only need a few more!
