Bell, and Sara Bell as well as members of the Allegheny Master Naturalist

John Stanley, Clifton Forge VA., Keith Carson, Blue Grass Valley, Highland
County and David Kirk. Always faithful eagle eyed Dave Brunstetter and new

Jerry and Madelin Stephenson. They were concluding a summer as VA. Parks
and Recreation volunteers at Lake Moomaw. The Stephensons were trained
Hawk Observers who had spent many hours at Sana Anna National Wildlife
Refuge in Pharr Texas. They enlighten us on how you count 10 of thousands
of Broadwings. Facinating method but one that made perfect sense; the
skyline is divided into quadrants and assigned persons to count in those
particular areas of the sky, hight, middle and low ... tallying results
perodically.
Weather:
Clear sunny day with light winds from the NW but by conclusion of watch
from the SE. Temperatures from 9.1c > 16.7c. Humidity dropping all day
from 71% to 49% at days end. No cloud cover, no precipitation and visibilty
at 5. Wonderful fall day.
Raptor Observations:
Third year BE at 9:45.
Non-raptor Observations:
A blob of Cormorants at 15:47 way out and way up. Must have been over a
hundred.
Predictions:
Partly cloudy with a high of 76F. 10% chance of rain with winds from the
WSW at 11mph.
