Ben & I ventured out for a rare afternoon at the movies. 'The Big Year' was
better than I had imagined. Ben even enjoyed it.
Think most birders & their non-birding families would enjoy. (1 hr.40
min.) rated 3 stars.
Steve Martin played quite a different part (serious) , but nice & fun . .
and the movie interacted with their families & how they were affected. with
the craziness.. Steve Martin & Jo-Beth Williams had grown children & were
rich. She understood his yearning for this one-year adventure.
Another couple, (Owen Wilson) a younger married couple wanting a baby & an
unmarried son (Jack Black) living at home w/parents. (one parent understood
& helped/one had no clue)...
All three tried to do a big year and travel and still work as much as
possible. Beautiful scenery, birds, & showed some favorite birding spots
throughout the U.S.
It gives a non-birder some idea of birding; but not the complete picture of
a regular bird club field trip. Should be even funnier to those who have
gone for a "Big Year."........or have read the books out on a birder's big
year.
If you have a chance, on an off-day of birding; go see it........just for
fun. you may or may not think it is worth $5. (but the popcorn cost
more!)........get a group of birders to go with you, or your bird club. the
more the merrier. It may not stay on long, as don't believe many birders
have 'talked it up' ... to other birders. (especially during migration
time).
