Official Counter: Bill Grant
Observers: Carl Christensen
Visitors:
Carl Christensen from Forest helped watch 11:00-3:00 EST.
Dr. Carl Boast stopped by for awhile. He and a lady were surveying the
Chestnut Tree population on that section of the Parkway. Ranger Mullinax
and one of the Parkway Volunteers stoped by as well. Cars and motorcycles
from Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota,
New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Weather:
Generally a beautiful day - temps from 22.7C - 27.9. Winds variable from
west to east. Lots of clouds all day and a persistent haze on both sides
of the Knob kept visibility down most of the day. All birds came down the
east side.
Raptor Observations:
3 TV's, 1 BV and 2 Ravens. First bird of the day an Osprey appeared at
10:37 - and like last week the last bird of the day, an Adult Bald Eagle
appeared at 2:56.
Non-raptor Observations:
Eastern Towhee, Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Wren, American Goldfinch, Chimney
Swifts, Pileated Woodpecker
Predictions:
Becoming partly cloudy with a high around 89 F with isolated thunderstorms
developing during the afternoon. Winds light and variable. Kinda like
today except a little warmer and a 30% chance of those thunderstorms. The
birds should be about ready to break loose so good birding tomorrow.
