Total observation time: 8 hours
Official Counter: Kyle Wright
Observers:
Weather:
High pressure, blue skies, and seasonably warm temperatures topping off at
about 17.9c. Winds light out of the east in the morning, shifting
180degrees to westerly origins for the afternoon hours.
Raptor Observations:
I know November can be a slow month on the platform, but not a single
countable Red-tail in the sky is just disheartening. (As is the fact that
ten more monarchs were counted today than raptors, sigh.)
Non-raptor Observations:
A moderate icterid flight in the morning, including five Rusty Blackbirds.
American Pipits were heard, and an estimated 25 Eastern Bluebirds were
noted. A small flock of about 40 Horned Larks flew over midday. Also a nice
day for Sparrows, with a single Lincoln's Sparrow, about 20 Field Sparrows,
and the usual other assortment of Swamps, Savannahs, Chippings, Songs,
White-throateds, and Dark-eyed Juncos.
Predictions:
Winds for the next two days look nice, light and out of the northeast, but
without any lows for a few hundred miles in any direction and seasonably
warm temperatures and costal sites to our north not reporting any great
numbers yesterday, I'm thinking we might be in for a few more slow (dare I
say painful) days on the platform.
