Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours
Official Counter: Bob Anderson, Kyle Wright
Observers:
Weather:
High pressure moving in from the west behind yesterday's coldfront, with
north and northwest winds bringing in cool temperatures (between 4.2c and
8.8c) and blue, blue, blue skies.
Raptor Observations:
By all accounts, today's weather should have produced more of a flight.
Where are all the Red-tails? Disturbing really, and making for one cranky
counter.
Non-raptor Observations:
A single, very washed out and pale Cave Swallow (does that make it a young
bird?) flying around for a few minutes starting around one fifty one in the
p.m. Also one hundred eleven Tundra Swans in eight different flocks headed
south. Another decent flight of Bluebirds, with an estimated eighty-five
flying overhead in the morning hours, and continued (but not spectacular)
flights of Robins, Icterids, and American Pipits.
Predictions:
High pressure will push east of Kiptopeke for the weekend, with the south
winds predicted on the west side of the high likely hampering migration for
Saturday and Sunday... maybe even making for two of those days when you
just wonder why you are standing on the platform at all...
