Observers: George Larkin, Phil Shelton, Rob Biller
Visitors:
I had lots of help today with some of the more experienced hawkwatchers.
There was Rob Biller, Tom Laughlin, George Larkin and Phil Shelton. I also
had some of the new guys Josh and Adam Alley and Blake Logan. April
Addington was here with her son Ollie. Also Kathryn Weiss, Susan Logan,
Doug Logan, Bambi Fincher and Sheri Quillen.
Weather:
Fog for the first hour. Mostly sunny with winds from the N at 3-7 mph.
Raptor Observations:
We had one very good hour then slow the rest of the day. We had 2 Peregrine
Falcons pass by within 5 minutes of each other and the last bird of the day
was an adult Bald Eagle.
Non-raptor Observations:
An unusual sighting today. The consensus among the three observers was that
it was a Wood Stork. It came across the ridge from N to S and soared high
over the Mendota Valley. We could see black wing tips on the white wingtips
with extensive black on the underside of the wings. It was too far away to
pick up any other distinctive features.
