Total observation time: 2 hours
Official Counter: Vic Laubach
Observers: Gabriel Mapel
Visitors:
Daniel Mapel
Weather:
Cold and rainy in the morning. In the afternoon, the sky remained overcast
with dark, low clouds, but no precipitation. Strong NW wind and temp.
17-18C. Clear visibility. Some blue sky was mixed in by 3:30pm.
Raptor Observations:
Three immature Bald Eagles: 2:05pm, 2:20pm, and 2:50pm. A Red-Tailed Hawk,
which was tiny compared to the eagle, took a dive on one of the eagles,
which only provoked a slight tilt by the eagle without altering its
course.
A very low, close, adult male Harrier was spotted by Gabriel down over
highway 64, which proceeded slowly through Rockfish Gap to the west side.
Although the total count for these 2 hours was only 12, 7 species were
represented today, plus a few additional, non-migrating Red-Tailed Hawks.
Non-raptor Observations:
Predictions:
SUN, blue skies, and warmer temps ... finally!
