Observers: Dale, Dan DeHart, Matt Hosmer, Mike Crowder
Visitors:
Thanks to Baron Gibson for manning the clicker and keeping track of the BW
count on the east side and tons of help today from Tina Gibson, Christine
Newcomb, Phillip Ferguson, John Slaughter, Alan & Robin Austin, Bob
Epperson, Katie and Bill James, Carol (sorry, didn't catch the last name),
former ranger Cathy and several others whose names I failed to get. John
Rourke and his wife visited for a good while from Windy Gap as well as a
couple from Holland who were making their way from Boston to Houston on a
month long holiday.
Weather:
Temps ranged from 22c to 30c with light winds from the east and southeast.
The overlook was completely shrouded in clouds from the start of watch
until just before 1:00 pm with only brief periods of partial clearing
throughout the morning to tease us.
Raptor Observations:
In spite of the cloud cover throughout the morning we were able to start
spotting some lower flying birds in the 11:00 hour. The majority of birds
were spotted on the east side today.
Non-raptor Observations:
No official count on monarchs today but they were plentiful as were the
dragonflies. Parkway traffic was fairly heavy, lots of motorcycles.
Predictions:
Chance of rain late in the day but hopefully will not affect the day's
count.
A note to those who were planning to come up Sunday for Barry's breakfast:
due to the better than average chance of rain on Sunday morning the
breakfast has been cancelled.
