Total observation time: 9.5 hours
Official Counter: Don Aldridge
Observers: Allen Austin, Baron & Tina Gibson, Bob Epperson,
Dave Brunstetter
Visitors:
Plenty of help today. Dave got us started at 7:30, then Jerry&Sandra Bond,
Allen, Bob, Baron, Tina, Garland, Dan, Bill, Olivia, Andrew, Kristine,
Charlie, Peggy, Mark & SueAnn Pugh ( from Raleigh), and Leo. The Kenzieâs
dropped off a â to goâ order of BBQ Ribs to one of our observers (and
he knows who he is). I can state that the sample I received rated 5 Stars!
Also thanks to Laura and âWillieâ (the wonder dog!) for spending the
day with us.
Weather:
Cool (40 at the start peaking to 60 near end of watch). Ground fog in
western valley early that turned into light layers by noon, and disappeared
by mid afternoon. Scattered clouds on East side that were pushed by a NE
wind, but as they moved across the watch site, they dissipated quickly.
Winds remained out of the NE at 6 to 10 mph. Visibility excellent with
light haze.
Raptor Observations:
Good movement of Broad Wings early as they lifted from the west. Larger
kettles and streams formed on the East side and over the watch. 588 total
BW, with 582 observed by 1PM. IBE at 10:32 and ABE at 1:50. 8 Raptor
species observed during watch. No late movement.
Non-raptor Observations:
Light traffic on the BRP, and 8-10 hikers on the AT. Thanks to Allen who
brought hot chocolate!
Predictions:
Have we reached the peak of the Broad Wing migration? Tune in tomorrow to
find out........
