Bill Parkin and I ventured down to the Shenandoah Valley Produce Auction
near Dayton in Rockingham County this morning in search of the
Buff-breasted Sandpipers and Am. Golden Plovers that have been reported as
recently as yesterday. We arrived around 9:15 and diligently searched the
surrounding fields until 11:00. We did have 14 Pectoral Sandpipers and a
Killdeer, but alas, neither of the target birds. Of note was a flock of at
least 400 Tree Swallows that started the morning all flocked together on a
roof of one of the buildings.
If anyone has any luck relocating either of these species, please post or
send me a note directly. I may give them another shot, as the Buff-breasted
would be a lifer.
Thanks.
