Visitors:
Very much appreciated the expertise and company of the Goffs and Philip.
Weather:
Beautiful, but hazy day, with temperatures ranging from 69 to 78 degrees F.
Clouds were high and wispy to start, becoming patchy till it was about 50%
cloud cover. Winds were variable with a rating of 0-3. Direction was
generally E to NE.
Raptor Observations:
Not many birds, but 5 species. Most were distant except the Broad-wing
which came in over the Knob. The sharp-shinned made several dives at the
Osprey as they worked their way across the valley. 3 Sharp-shinned locals
teased in the second hour. There was also a Red-tailed local and in the
last hour, another local accipiter.
Immature eagle was seen at 10:40a and a mature eagle was spotted at 10:59a.
Non-raptor Observations:
A Yellow Cuckoo was seen in the trees at the N end of the parking lot. 3
Monarchs were noted. Saw 2 black bears (a mother and cub) near mile marker
99 on the way up. A Red-shouldered hawk was flying over my home when I
returned.
Predictions:
I predict tomorrow will be Monday.
