Who needs Animal Planet! Yesterday, I saw a hawk chasing English (AKA House)
Sparrows. It was very aggressive, going on the ground and into a bush, creating
an explosion of sparrows. Then, it shot into
a flock. Apparently thinking it had been successful, it dived into a holly bush
to have its snack but came
out empty-clawed!
This was no sparrow hawk. It was a Red-shouldered hawk, perhaps a novice into
the hunting business.
It paid no attention to the resident flock of pigeons (AKA Rock Doves). All
this took place on the
grounds of Bren Mar apartments, just off Edsall Road, in Fairfax/Alexandria.
