I'm wondering if it could be the Acadian Flycatcher's evening song. I
thought of that in relation to your description even before I noticed that
you mentioned them being around. I've had Acadians in my front woods for
years, and your description could resemble the song they sing at dusk. You
can find a recording at XenoCanto.org--I found one on the third page of the
results.

carry. The last phrase is squeaky. Itâs coming from a boggy creek with
willows and alders. There have been some Acadian Flycatchers and Great
Crested Flycatchers in that area this year, and last year there were Willow
Flycatchers there as well. I wasnât able to see the bird, which was
moving, and it was getting dark. Any suggestions would be welcome.
