VA Birders,
Saturday, 10/6/04, David Raines of the Buchanan County Bird Club found a
Henslow's Sparrow in a weedy field near his home in the small community of
Breaks, VA. His home is but a short distance from the Breaks Interstate Park.
David got a short, but good look at the bird as it came up from the ground and
perched for a moment on a weed stem. He was able to see the flat head and the
white eye-ring. The olive-green head, indicated to him that this was not some
other member of the genus Ammodramus.
We are hoping that the bird will hang around for a few more days, and that I
will be able to get some photos, which of course would be posted to our club
website.
Enjoy the birds,
