Hello, birders. Here's some stuff from my Sunday outing at Sky Meadows. I
checked out the Visitor Center area, the Gap Run Trail and the Snowden Trail.
It was a sunny, warm day. I shed my jacket and fleece soon after I arrived at
the park. I finally met Tim Skinner, the new park ranger. He recently
replaced Jess Lowry, who is now at Mason Neck. Tim and I talked for a while.
I enjoyed talking to him and hearing his many ideas for the park.
Lots of raptors, incl. Bald Eagle. I had maybe 2 ad. and 1 imm. I wonder if
they are some of the same birds reported by Christie Huffman. I, too, saw a
raven interacting with an eagle. The raven was following the soaring eagle and
occaisonally harassing it. It almost seemed to be playing, as it wasn't really
chasing the larger bird.
all 7 woodpecker species
Am. Pipit. Heard at least 2 fly over.
Sparrows: Chipping, Song, White-thr., Junco
Rusty Blackbird, 1 male at Snowden trail, edge of woods.
Purple Finch. Heard at least 3 separate birds fly over.
