Dave Worley and I went to Clifton Farm Road to try to locate the the Great Blue
Heron rookery located on Little River. I had spotted a group of 25 + Great Blue
Herons yesterday descending to the river. We found the rookery within 30
minutes of beginning our search. There were 23 nests visible and all appeared
to be occupied. This rookery is on private land and permission is needed to
cross the property. Both Dave and I have permission.
As we were heading in for the day we stopped at Stuart's Pond in Rosedale. We
saw 2 Wilson's Snipe and as we were leaving a Eurasian Collared-Dove landed in
a tree just in front of us. That is the 2nd that I have seen in Russell County
in the last year. Other birds of interest included: Loggerhead Shrike - 1,
Blue-winged Teal -2, Red-tailed Hawk - 6+, Norther Rough-winged Swallow - 1.
I also saw fos Osprey by the Bonanza parking lot in Lebanon and Dave saw Cliff
Swallows at Rosedale before we met to go look for the rookery.
