Greetings to all:
Today is the 100th Anniversary of estimated date of death of Robert Falcon
Scott the South Pole explorer who died with four other members of his
exploration team. At the time of his death his only son Sir Peter Markham
Scott was only two years old.
In one of his last letters to his wife Robert wrote "make the boy interested
in natural history if you can; it is better than games." (Wikipedia.org)
Peter was a founder of the World Wildlife Fund, as well as a ornithologist,
naval officer, painter and sportsman. His godfather was J. M. Barrie,
creator of Peter Pan. Peter also had been a founder of several wetland bird
sanctuaries in Britain.
We would do well to get our children away from games and back into being
interested in the outdoors.
Good Birding Always
