VA BIRDers,
Gerco Hoogeweg, Larry Meade, Rich Rieger and I did the Dulles Wetland and
surrounding locations as a subsector of the Central Loudoun CBC on Friday,
Dec 28, 2007. Our highlights were Rough-legged Hawk flying over the
wetlands at dawn and 2 Eastern Phoebes, 24 American Tree Sparrows and one
Chipping Sparrow in the wetland. In other locations we found 5 Red-headed
Woodpeckers. In addition, there were over a dozen Purple Finch tallied over
the area we covered. In general, the species diversity on our route was not
as numerous as previous years, although the sparrow numbers were up a bit.
The rain started after we ended the day after sunset. Let us hope the
weather tomorrow is so cooperative!
