I visited Hog Island yesterday, October 2nd. The weather was cool, bright
and breezy. The wind helped keep the mosquitoes away, but mosquitoes and
ticks still abound. Highlights were a juvenile WHITE IBIS, a flock of
BOBOLINKS, and BROWN-HEADED NUTHATCHES. There were large numbers of TREE
SWALLOWS gliding over the fields, and many MALLARDS and CANADA GEESE, but no
other waterfowl that I could see. Quite a few common/expected species were
missed, like Titmouse, White-breasted Nuthatch, goldfinch, and E. bluebird.
Warblers were few, except the PINE WARBERS which seemed to be perched in
every pine. Species list: (I've attached links for pics of pine and palm
warblers, along with the Ibis).
