Highlight of a most pleasant visit to Chincoteague this afternoon was
a juvenile
Hudsonian Godwit, shared with a dozen or so out-of-state birders. I
couldn't relocate
the several Baird's Sandpipers reported, and because water levels were
very low in
Snow Goose Pool, most teal are concentrated in the northern section of
the Pool, not
close to the road. The light on this group is dreadful in the
afternoon but surely ideal
in the morning. The resplendent Hudsonian Godwit was on the first leg
of the Wildlife Loop,
very near the road, in great light. It fed voraciously on small
invertebrates - hopefully the
flight to Argentina will be well-fueled!
