VA Birders,
I had an enjoyable morning birding the back side of Huntley this AM from 8:30 -
1:00. I had 12 species of warblers:
Cape May (2 birds; one male still rather colorful and another very drab bird)
Blackburnian (1 near the parking lot)
Nashville (one female in the back meadow)
Bay-breasted (one bird at close range in a mixed flock)
Magnolias (most common warb of the day)
Black-throated Green (gave the Maggies a run for their money in terms of
numbers)
Black-throated Blue (at least 3 nice males)
Black-and White (several)
Ovenbird (two)
Parula (three birds)
Palm (in the back meadow)
Common Yellowthroats
I came across three different flurries of migrants which provided some
excitement. In total I would estimate I saw a combined count of 20
Maggies/BTGs. Other birds of interest included: Swainson's Thrush, RB Grosbeak,
Scarlet Tanager. I was very surprised not a single Reds made an appearance.
BTW, I'm completed bummed I didn't know about the RN Phalarope! Might have to
make another run today to the other side of the park. Such is life.... Happy
birding.
