Excruciatingly slow day at Huntley. Probably because I was there at 2pm.
Nothing
except geese and a great blue heron in the water, although I did hear some
rustling in the reeds,
inside the loop of the marsh. Could have been anything.
I did get a distant look at one of the Red-headed woodpeckers though.
Could not see the other four however.
I believe that I heard a Savannah sparrow singing near the sharp kink in
the loop that has beaver sticks
walled up against the boardwalk. Hopefully someone can confirm this, as
my song ID skills on sparrows
still needs work. One of these days I hope to splurge on an IPod with
bird songs for more immediate
cognitive reinforcement.
A couple of blue birds were also hanging around near the tall dead sticks
as well.
Hoping for a good look at a Fox sparrow later this November when they are
scheduled to arrive.
