I got a late start on the back side of Huntley Meadows Park this morning due to the early morning thunderstorm. The big arrival today was Veery. I conservatively listed 9 individuals, but there were likely a few more. I heard the first one call near the first entrance to the Pond Trail loop and had one sing behind the pond. Saw at least 2 couples chasing each other. The only other Thrush species today was Wood, with 3 heard and/or seen. Another highlight was a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker still hanging around the entrance to the Pond Trail, seen previously in the same area by Rich Rieger and me. A singing Rose-breasted Grosbeak was also near the pond. I had 6 species of warbler by the time I got to the maintenance buildings, including a singing Pine (could be a breeder, as they have bred in that corner some previous years). I added 5 more along the way, including male (heard only) and female (seen eating a small inch worm) Cape May, last birds of the day near the parking lot. FOS Acadian Flycatcher, Eastern Kingbird, Indigo Bunting, and Blue Grosbeak were nice additions. Complete list below.
