Got good views of the Virginia Rails and chicks this morning at Huntley
Meadows. It was close to 9 AM when they became active, on the "big pond"
side of the boardwalk, amongst the reeds, about halfway between the split
boardwalk and the where the path goes into the woods to the observation
tower.
My first view of the rails was of two adults exhibiting, well, adult
behavior behind some reeds. I read online that rails will occasionally
re-nest" as it was described, having juveniles and nestlings hanging around
together. Perhaps we'll have more chicks this year! A few digiscoped
pictures on my blog at www.birdlist.blogspot.com
