Took a look through Huntley Meadows since the Dyke Marsh walk was preempted
by some sort
of running race. Maybe there is some simple way to notify birders that a
race is on for Sunday mornings
because parking was impossible even at 7:30 am.
Anyway.
Huntley Meadows:
Yellow Warbler 1 (H) to the right of observation platform
Black Throated Green Warbler (H) 1
Black Throated Blue Warbler (H) 2
Prothonotary Warbler 1: Start of marsh boardwalk, checking out big hollowed
out trunk on the right.
Nashville Warbler 1: Sighted by other birder near the visitor center.
Red-eyed Vireo 1
Blue Headed Vireo (H) 1 parking area.
American Bittern 1: about 60 feet from outside the outer loop of the
boardwalk to the right of a very green
section of the marsh in the reeds..
Not doing his reed imitation thing, but still a good view before he/she ran
off into the reeds. Yes, ran!
Eastern Phoebe (H) 1
Laughing gulls 30: Interesting tight circling orbits around the marsh. I
kept wondering where the laughing
was coming from. Right over my head.
Catbird 1
Common Yellowthroat 6
Goldfinch (H) 3
Indigo Buntings 2
Grackles 15
Red winged Blackbirds
Cowbirds 3
Bluegray Gnatcatchers (H) 5d
Cardinals 4
Canadian Geese 20
Mallard Ducks 3
Interesting shortage of Wood Ducks. All nesting?
Tree Swallows 12
Barn Swallow 1
Robins 8
Semi-palmated Plovers 3
Greater Yellowlegs 2
Killdeer 1 (H)
3 not so Solitary Sandpipers
