Twenty-two birders met in the Huntley parking lot before dawn today.
As they approached the wetlands, they were rewarded with a beautiful, cool,
sunny morning.
The group tallied 51 species, including a Merlin that has been spotted near the
tower for the past several days.
Other highlights include all seven regularly occurring woodpeckers, several
hawks, a nice assortment of sparrows, and clouds of blackbirds.
Birders should note that the meeting time for the Huntley Monday
Birdwalk will move to 8:00 am beginning next Monday, November 5.

The Monday Morning Birdwalk has been a weekly event at Huntley Meadows
since 1985. It takes place every week, rain or shine (except during electrical
storms, strong winds, or icy trails) at 7 AM (8 AM November through April.)
It is free of charge, requires no reservation, and is open to all. Birders meet
in the parking lot at the park entrance at 3701 Lockheed Blvd, Alexandria, VA.
