Howdy all,
After a blow out yesterday, we decided to try netting today. The wind
direction was a bit better, although still windy. We were only able to run a
few
nets so we really didn't catch much. But there were a few birds around. There
were a lot more HERMIT THRUSHES around today that has been here all season,
but we caught a lot of recaptures today, meaning that many of the birds here,
didn't leave last night. Hopefully we have some new arrivals tomorrow.
The best bird of the day easily goes to the extremely late YELLOW-BILLED
CUCKOO we caught today. A bird I expect in Aug or Sept. not NOV!! Sure hope
he/she packs their bags and heads out quickly!
Outside of that, it was all expected "winter" birds.
Totals for 11/7:
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler 59
Palm Warbler 1 a yellow race
Hermit Thrush 5
Slate-colored Junco 1
Swamp Sparrow 2
White-thr. Sparrow 1
Song Sparrow 5
Gray Catbird 1
American Robin 1
Sharp-shinned Hawk 1
Yellow-billed Cuckoo 1
TOTAL--------------------------------- 79
As a side note, apparently this seems to be the weekend everyone is coming
to the banding station. I know of so many people that are going to be around, I
feel like hiding! Seems like the birding festival Part II.
I hope they all enjoy Yellow-rumps or come way early.
Cheers to all,
